...Without really trying I've also picked up several dozen kanji (in addition to the winds and numbers*) and can recognise most mahjong terms by sight, although that's not much use in everyday life! I've not really learnt any vocabulary or syntax...
I have the same, uh, "problem," maybe. I can translate mahjong theory by sight, especially beginners.biz as the author doesn't use a wide range of words and likes repeating them quite a few (「もっとも」「のでしょうか」「比較」等々... whoever gets to say how many times the author said "最も" gets a free coke), and I can read smoothly through it, but when I pick up an actual Japanese book of, say, Science Fiction, I'm completely lost. And it's funny, because the normal Japanese fella can't read mahjong texts correctly if he doesn't know a thing about mahjong, as most terms are chinese in nature (起家(ちーちゃ)?あ?「きか」?).

So, I want to use this skill at least... given that I can't really use standard Japanese (save for some Kansai-ben but that's a completely different matter).

I've been playing 2p on GBA just to aim for yakuman. I got a Suu An Kou Tanki, a Suu An Kou, Kokushi and Kazoe, but the most interesting one was this one:

It feels so harmonic.

Even if 2p is BS, I love the quality of that hand shape.

Certainly you're not the first person to think that. Check out the final yakuman section on these rule settings...

http://kumot.finito.fc2.com/mj/ruleinput.html

"字一色七対子:ダブル / シングル / なし" (all honours + seven pairs = double / single / nashi)

PS Might as well make four kongs a double yakuman (and three kongs a single) while we're at it!

That site is awesome. I'll use it to stablish the rulesets at the club.

Most certainly Tsuu Ii Sou 7 Pairs should be a double yakuman, just on beauty alone. Compared to 13-sided-wait Kokushi and Pure Chuuren, it certainly fits.

Also, I lol'd:
反則
先自模:あり なし 盲牌:あり なし 立直和了前の裏ドラ確認:あり なし
立直後の手牌覗き:あり なし その他イカサマ:あり なし バレたら罰符 バレたら以降なんでもあり

Well, I guess at least in Tetsuya they would be glad to go with バレたら罰符.

Four kongs is actually double yakuman material. It would finally give back enough reward for the risk and difficulty.

Three kongs, I would promote to 4 han. If you hit a few dora, it' a baiman, but I don't think it deserves any more than that. D:
It could still hit kazoe with some luck.

Also, ryanpeikou should seriousy be promoted up at least 1 han.

It also fits the "special version" theme of the double yakuman

Shousuushii ==> Daisuushii (Fourth wind pon)
Chuurenpotou ==> Chuurenpotou kyuumen (Perfect wait)
Kokushi Musou ==> Kokushi Musou juusanmen (Perfect wait)
Suu Ankou ==> Suu Ankou Tanki (got the Ankou first)

Anyone has a different version of that awesome site? English would make it the most accessible to the widest range of people, but I can do with Romaji (still widely accessible) or even kana only (That would still leave some people out, but it's a good halfway point)

I might translate it, if someone gives me a resource to upload the .html!

You could start a new thread on this board?

A definitive (?!) list of rule options and variants would be a useful resource, and that site would make an excellent starting point.

Okay, that sounds viable.

But I'm not translating the names, though. If it says やきとり I won't write "Roasted Chicken" but "Yakitori." w

so far I have got 4 type of yakuman:
1. koku shimusou.
I started with 8 orphans and then the wall always provide terminal honors to me, then I set my purpose to achieve 13 orphan , then finally success, i'm very happy, this is my first yakuman ever. but unfortunately, when I got this hand I still don't know how to make print screen so I can only provide my hand story
Image

2. Tsuu Iisou and dai sangen
I started with 2 pair honor and 3 honor so I make decision to achieve Pure honour ,but also pay attention to to discard place. But I don't think I also can get 3 big dragon along with all honour
Image

3.Kazoe yakuman,
I'm so lucky  that I can got dora 3 tile and ura dora 4 tile. and also got 3 concealed pong ,it so really help me a lot to get yakuman
Image

I also had got tenpai on Ryu Isou and su an kou. And I also ever got 13 orphan with 13 side wait and su an kou with single wait (waiting for pair) but so pity the game that I was playing is not richhi MJ but Singapore MJ  . so it only count 13 fan , and for suankou , I just got all pong hand coz singapore MJ didn;t recognize 4 concealed pong with discard win as Hidden treasure or su ankou :(
btw I think the most difficult yakuman to achive is su kan tsu , it;s so rare to listen that someone have got su kan tsu. for example If you have already got 3 kong in ur hand and u just wait one kong again (and the chance is so big) but suddenly the other has got one kong, so surely u will lose su kan tsu . am i right???

If you translate the list, I would like to see these things:
  • Keep the Japanese text and put English in parentheses, perhaps.
  • Furigana (in ACRONYM tag?)
  • Add more options.
  • Mark which options are the common ones.
I can make a copy of HTML accessible by my computer if you need it.

Hey there, I tried doing this, and based on my experience I can say the following:

I can't keep both English and Japanese, as the form gets too large, and it kind of misses the point. I would much rather offer the link to the original Japanese version.

Furigana seems unneeded, as I would technically be writing the names in roman letters.

I have been considering adding more options, but most of them seem already covered. The only ones I see viable, are regarding chonbo (no payment, mangan payment, or -20 from final score (like in renmei)).

I wasn't really marking the most common ones, but I was marking the ones used in tenhou hanchan. Some things are trivial (like, who flips the dora) so I marked them as they are performed most commonly (to my own understanding).

The problem with this was, when I copied all fields and tried to save the file, the check-boxes disappeared, and I can't seem to get them figured out, the text gets too spaced or not spaced enough. I have to fix that.
Some terms, when translated/transliterated, get too long ruining the format of the presentation of the document.

It still looks kind of "unprofessional," and I wanted it to be a lot more... neat, and more easily viewable and understandable. Still trying to find a right balance.

I'm posting it on Osamuko's site when it's done for everyone to view, but it's only an awkward literal'ish translation as of now.
