What do you guys do with your flowers/other fives?

It\'s kinda annoying to sift through all those tiles to find the extra fives and season tiles. What do you guys do with them?
I\'m thinking about taping them to the bottom of the case so I\'ll never have to worry about them again, while maintaining status quo on the space in the case.

i just keep my tiles all mixed up in a box, not in the trays they came in. i have my flowers and seasons in a drawer somewhere.

I keep the tiles in the trays and just turn the tiles I am not going to use the other way (and sometimes, when I remember to, I also turn one of each wind and an even and an odd tiles the other way so I can easily find tiles to draw lots with)

They aren\'t inside the machine. They\'re still in the original box.
As for my boxed sets (not machine-usable), I always leave the extras in one column, and I always put the tiles in the trays face-up so the extras can be left out when putting the other tiles on the table.
This is not a problem. There\'s nothing annoying about it.

See, that\'s what I\'ve been doing too, and this wouldn\'t be a problem, except I play with some of the most impatient people I know. As SOON as the tiles touch the table, they start shuffling them, which means unless I decide to set up half an hour in advance, I quickly lose sight of those tiles (and I\'m beginning to think that they do this on purpose to annoy me). Which is why I\'m considering taping them to the bottom.

So don\'t let the extra tiles touch the table. Hold them in the tray when you dump out the others.
Or just speak: "hey guys, don\'t mix the tiles yet. I gotta take out the extras." What\'s stopping you from having a conversation? (^_^)

Oh, we\'ve had this conversation quite often. I\'m always met with a \"Oh, whoops. I forgot.\" and a smirk which tells me that in reality, they haven\'t forgotten at all. Which is why I am suspicious of them.
Friends. You can\'t live with them, and you can\'t throw them down a well. There really ought to be a law.

The tiles I currently have are stupid because the tiles are the same on the back as on the front, so I cannot use the blanks. I could use the flowers in place of the blanks if I wanted to, I guess, but I would prefer to get a proper set of tiles that doesn\'t have this problem.

same on the back as on the front? So you mean the White dragon is right side up no matter which way it\'s facing? That IS weird. So you have to flip every single tile over until you find the extra blanks? Wait, can\'t use the blanks? What are you using blanks for? Is that what you\'re calling the White dragon?
Does anyone else feel like a seemingly simple problem has somehow assumed complex proportions?
Tom, are you saying you have an automatic table in your house? Do you need a roommate?

I have two tables. One of them is working. The other one doesn\'t have tiles or a base to hold it up off the floor.

Don\'t tape the tiles, tap the guys.
What if you say "You forgot? So please remove them now."

Wow. Your table was an adventure and a half. Makes me feel like an idiot for not scooping up one of the tables from a parlor down the street when it went out of business. I just didn\'t have anywhere to put it.
Sure hope we can get together for a game one of these days....

@Tom: That is some report about your mahjong table! Great reading and viewing.
===
As for the main subject of this thread... maybe you should get a grip and make sure you are the first person to dish out the tiles from the tray with the seasons and red fives!
Now if this thread were retitled \"annoying habits of friends I play mahjong with...\" it could probably go on forever!
