"Standard Tiles for Riichi Mahjong"

Post by wyce » Tue May 05, 2009 9:50 pm

What are the size of the tiles used in riichi tournaments? My set is 1 inch X 3/4 inch X 5/8 inch.

Also, is it possible to buy a automated table for that size of 1 inch X 3/4 inch X 5/8 inch?

Manufacturers vary the size slightly. Machine manufacturers especially (so other manufacturers\' tiles aren\'t used, which could cause problems).
But roughly, Japanese tiles are sized as I discussed in FAQ 7a on my site:
H = 2.5cm (1")
W = 1.8cm (23/32")
D = 1.6cm (19/32")

Automatic tables use special tiles with a magnet within, in order to can put the tiles with the good face up.

So, you can\'t just use standard tiles with a table, you have to use the tile set provided with the table.
