Pro Parlor Question

Post by HotelFSR » Sat May 09, 2009 9:52 am

Let\'s say a pro in Japan is playing casino-style games at parlors in order to make money.

Garthe mentioned that he sometimes goes to high rate parlors: are the rates at such places higher than 1000 yen per 1000 points?

Moreover, is it actually worth playing at these high rate parlors? While there is clearly greater potential for making money, I would assume that the level of competition is considerably higher than at a lower-rate parlor. No matter how good you are, you\'d presumably always have a greater edge among the low-rate crowd. Is the payoff/challenge ratio at high-rate parlors attractive enough to warrant playing there, from a financial point of view? Or would you be better off hunting average opponents at your average parlors, and winning much more?

No point playing for twice the stakes if your edge is cut in half, for instance! It cancels out.

Finally, do all places take a rake on top of table fees?

EDIT: I meant 100 yen per 1000 points. Typo!

Legit* places go up to 100y per 1000pt (30 bucks a game, assuming a flat bust, no uma). I couldn\'t see myself playing for 1000y per 1000pt, or anyone really, unless they hate money for some reason. (I\'m kidding, a bit of excess spite there). Or are pros with bankrolls.

As for your other questions, I have no answers but if someone else does, I\'m all ears.

It is usually the case that playing at 100yen=1000point rate is better by financial point of view. This is because:

1) a fee for one game is relatively expensive at 0.5 or 0.3 parlors by comparing the amount you get from winning.

2) There is a tip for 1pattsu-tsumo or hands with red-tiles. This tip is way better at 100yen games. Of course, there is greater chanse you lose double of your money.

Sry for my crappy grammar, but hope you can get some ideas.

I see that the game fee is less, which is nice, although the bonus for the ippatsu/aka is mostly a bad thing because it is so random.

The main question still remains. How much better are the players in the 100-1000 parlors? if you save, for example, 10% on the table fees but lose 10% more because of the tougher players, then it\'s a bad idea from a financial point of view. There needs to be a profit incentive to play at these places, unless you feel like losing money.

My current average place online on Toupaiou is 2.17, but that\'s on the all-levels lobby. It would definitely be a little lower if I played only on the high-level lobby.

So, if those games were for money there would need to be a good reason for me to want to play on the high-level lobby! The extra money percentage would have to be higher than the extra losing percentage.

Any ideas what the scene is like at parlors with different rates?
