Kokushi Musou - rob a con. kan

Post by Fat Dragon » Mon Feb 01, 2010 6:21 pm

Can Kokushi Musou be achieved by robbing a concealed kan?

I\'ve seen this mentioned on some pages containing Riichi rules. If yes, is it the only hand where you can rob a concealed kan for finishing?

Yes, kokushi musoo is the ONLY hand you can complete by robbing a concealed kong.

Thanks Shirluban

Do all riichi rule sets (especially Japanese & EMA) play this rule equally?

No. Being able to \"rob\" a concealed kan with kokushi is a commonly known rule but generally known as a local variant; most \"official\" rule sets do not employ this rule. A common variation is that you can rob any concealed kan with *any* yakuman.

Am I right that a win by \"robbing a (concealed) kan\" can only count as \"ron\"?

since the case is only to yakumans/kokushi, the chan-kan yaku is irrelevant

I think the second question was not about yaku, but that who pays (ron vs tsumo). Player who wins with chan kan gets all points from player who made kan (so its like ron)

@chalwa

...yes, you\'re right. I didn\'t express myself well enough. But thanks for reading my mind. You must be a good Riichi player since this ability is often needed in gameplay!
