Super-mega competition - win fabulous prizes!!
So, I have a couple of spare mahjong books that I\'d like to give away but I thought I\'d try to make it a bit more exciting by running a little competition. :)
First prize is a copy of Eleanor Noss Whitney\'s highly regarded A Mah Jong Handbook which includes 70 pages on strategy and a 35-page glossary of English and Japanese mahjong terms.
Second prize is a copy of Mah Jong for Beginners, co-written by Shozo Kanai.
Both books cover Japanese rules (and at least touch on the subject of Riichi), although they were written in 1964 and 1952 respectively so some of the rules and scoring differs from the modern rule-set. (I think that makes them more interesting!)
How to enter the competition:
Simply reply to this thread and use the \"More Smilies\" link on the left to add a tile, taking care not to choose one that someone else has chosen.
After I\'ve received 34 unique entries (or after 2-3 weeks) I will shuffle my Sango set and pick a tile at random. The entrant who picked that tile (or the one closest to it) wins first prize! I\'ll then pick again for second.
If two people are equidistant from my pick then the one to the right gets priority, so if I pick 4 then 5 wins, not 3 (if no-one chose the 4 that is).
Tiles will be counted in the following sequence:
1-crak to 9-crak, 1-bam to 9-bam, 1-dot to 9-dot, :east :south :west :north, white-dra green-dra red-dra
(red fives and season tiles not included)
The competition is open to all forum members - old and new; regulars, irregulars and lurkers. Books will be mailed free of charge, worldwide.
Good luck! :)

I\'ve added a little list now for easy reference. Would you like to pick another, WorTeX?
I was thinking earlier, if I was using my vintage set then the best choice would be the white drag as there are 12 of them! I\'ll be using a standard set of 136 tiles though.

Agh! Apparently I was half asleep when reading the post and posting my guess, in that case, I choose 8-dot

It\'s a smart choice at the moment as you don\'t have any near neighbours!
