Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and to mahjong and I was wondering why this hand isn't a ron hand:
3-dot 4-dot 5-dot
2-crak 3-crak 4-crak
1-bam 2-bam 3-bam
3-bam 3-bam 6-bam 7-bam 8-bam

Now I'm a complete newbie so any help is appreciated.

Edit: the last row is my current hand while the other three is chii's.

Thanks in advance.

Foremost, because the 6 is in a different suit than the 7-8. But the main problem is, even if it was a 6-sou, there's no yaku.

thanks for the quick reply, 6-bam 7-bam 8-bam this was the actual hand ( typo ) gonna edit now

Now, time to show my ignorance:
how do I see if it's a yaku and what is it?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Mahjong_yaku

To complete a hand you have to fulfill the requirements for at least one yaku.
so, it has to be on that list.

Yeah. It looks like Pinfu, but this one (as several others) can't be done open hand (ie, having claimed chi, pon, or kan before)

http://www.japanesemahjong.com/ good learning site, has nice list of Yaku at ch. 5.

Your primary error in opening this hand up, was opening it up with a terminal in one of your melds. About the only yaku you can complete with a lot of melds is Tanyao / All insides.

Best of luck in improving :D!
