oh man.. it really is going to come down to luck for me this time XD. strategy of choosing a tile off in no mans land DOESNT WORK. when you pick first <<;. a High Dot would be an excellent choice right about now <<;.

Indeed, but I wanted to make it simpler this time. It's fairer for you enthusiastic early entrants too - say you picked 5 dots, you could get "boxed in" by later people picking the 4 and 6, giving you only a 1/34 chance of winning where they might have 3/34 or 4/34 if there's no nearby entries.

It adds dramatic tension to the grand prize draw at the end too! (for me at least) :)

oh! You have moved to exact matches. Yeah, that rules out early choosers getting boxed in. Hmmn, perhaps you should choose as many tiles as participants, if you get exact matches within those draws, great! If not, then move to closest. /dunno just a potential random addition. ^_^;;.

Cool. The other time I was close, but not close enough. My pick this time is: 8-bam

A wind for Mr Dragon!

A mahjong set? Much like Japanese mahjong, my generosity has limits.

Competition closes this Sunday evening (UK/Euro time). The super-mega prize draw will be made and results posted.

A mahjong set is expensive... Even the cheap ones.
Life is as beautiful as you want it to be, but it´s only one. That´s why you must not get tired of it. Don´t care if you don´t say something that seems "important" because your mere existence is important for someone.

Okey dokey... the competition is closed and I'm doing a dramatic midnight draw (actually 00:22 but that's less poetic).

I've shuffled 34 unique tiles from my Sango set and will pick them one at a time.

Remember - it must be an exact match to win this time.

Here we go...

8-dot no winner

1-dot wow! an early win for York - congrats! :D

2-bam Chalwa and Meeps both one away!

5-dot no-one near

2-crak Torgo and Merick both one away this time!

8-crak b4k4 - winner last time - is one away

6-crak Rosti one away

9-dot nope

:south GD is one away

1-crak and Torgo takes second! :)

Congratulations to both prize winners. If you login and message me (PM) with your postal address I'll get your prize off to you asap.

Thanks to everyone else who entered. Hope you have better luck at the mahjong table. ;)

dang, 8-dot and 8-crak but no 8-bam

Oh well. Congratulations to the winners. I read the post slowly scrolling down and mounting tension with all those near misses.

That's good to know. You're very welcome - hope you find it interesting.

I've just started reading a book (literally a few pages, a few minutes ago) entitled Thirteen Orphans! It's a contemporary fantasy novel by Jane Lindskold, evidently combining magic with concepts from the Chinese zodiac and mahjong. The sequel is called Nine Gates.
