I got myself a true riichi mahjong set!

Earlier this month, I decided to bite the bullet and actually purchase a true riichi mahjong set from a site that actually has sets made in Japan...

I bought the Shou Suu Shii set, and because the set weighs some 3.5 kilograms, I paid a ton for shipping for that set, directly from Japan...

Now for the Junk Mat...

But a case like that? That's sweet.

Beautiful tiles... I myself have tiles and a table to play, but I played a few times... To boy a junk mat is probably the easiest option.

Hi, I want to buy a set from Japan for myself and hope you can tell me where you got yours from?
Do you have any sources/contacts for shops in Japan?
Hope for an answer.

Sorry for the late reply, as I actually didn't notice replies on my own thread... That said, for those of you who asked...

I got the "Suu Shii Hou" mahjong set from this website - http://www.japanese-games-shop.com/mahj ... e-mahjong/

That specific set, unfortunately, is no longer available from that website though, but there are other sets available.

As for cost, the sets range from 40 USD to 250 USD and shipping ranges from 45 USD to 95 USD, depending on destination.

Hello,

If you want an actual shop in Japan, I bought mine last year at a Tokyu Hands in Tokyo (the one in Sunshine City in Ikebukuro) but I suppose you will find one in every Tokyu Hands shop. There's a floor with board games and Riichi mahjong sets locked in a showcase.
I bought a classic set for around 5000¥. The tiles are exactly the same as Goldeneye's (in a bit cheaper case).

Here the Google Maps link.

Also saw some in Nagoya's Tokyu Hands so it would go to show every Tokyu Hands has them ;-)
I was there for a mahjong mat which I also found, by the way, I got a junkmat for about ¥3,000 and there was a cheaper one (but didn't look as good) for about ¥2,000 if memory serves. I doubt they'd deliver though, it's not clear if you're actually in Japan?

Otherwise you can find cheap but good quality mahjong sets in second hand stores, mine comes from Nagoya's "Kimble" for less than ¥1,000 and the tiles showed no sign of wear.

If you are in Tokio the best and the chaep , but very good mahjong sets you can buy in Takeya: http://www.takeya.co.jp/english/
I bought there one set for 1,500Y, one for 3000Y, and that for 3000Y is one of my favorite sets ever!
Also in every Donki you can find lots of Mahjong, and some of them have good promotions. I got slightly used (from exposition), washizu set for 5000Y where in other shops it was around 10000-15000. Also simple (not junk) mat is there for 1200Y.
If you want to buy online, the best and with lots of different types is rakuten: http://global.rakuten.com/en/
Tokyu hands is quit pricy imho. Simple sango set (when i was there 3 years ago) was for 10000Y, and online and other stores i found it from 5000Y (online even cheaper)
