Is Pao usually a standard rule now?

Post by Goldeneye » Thu Nov 20, 2014 5:31 pm

Two days ago, I was playing at Sega MJ net and made a dai san gen yakuman in 3er with kamicha discarding the tile which made my third dragon set. I then subsequently went agari on a tsumo.

To my surprise, both kamicha and toimen wound up paying half each, instead of kamicha paying all!

I was quite surprised that pao wasn't enforced here - because apparently pao was nashi!

Has anyone else played a game where pao was nashi? I thought it was pretty much ari these days...

Nihon Pro Mahjong and Saikouisen (and USPML) don't use pao.
I'm not sure for 101.

If you were playing a 3-player game, the rule may be quite different.
Cats don't do タンヤオ (tan-yao) but タニャーオ (ta-nya-o).

Probably yes, but worth checking: Were the other two dragon sets open?

Also. Was kamicha in riichi before your second set?

All three sets were open and kamicha wasn't in riichi at all during that hand.

Pao is a local rule so is subject to change in different mahjong games but is generally used in most major online mahjong games for dai sangen and dai suu-shi. I checked the rules online for sega mj and they state in their online rule page that there is no Pao for both 3 player and 4 player mahjong. I'll leave the link for the 3 player rules as well as the copy and paste version on the post (Other sites that don't have Pao according to http://www29.atwiki.jp/mahjlocal/pages/96.html are 東風荘,ジャンナビ,幻想麻雀 and ガメジャン (it says MJ has Pao on this site but that's probably because it hasn't been updated))
