pon, chi, or pass?

Post by or2az » Fri Jun 19, 2015 5:20 pm

West discarded 6-bam . A pong of 4-bam is on the table. What's my "best" move?
It didn't matter as West tsumoed with 4 tiles left.

Calling chii is a mistake. You end up with 556s where onlt 1 of 4s, 6s, and 7s remain. The player across is also gunning for souzu, discards clearly indicating a flush hand and not tanyao.

Given the time to absorb it all, I would probably recommend to just let it go, your hand 90% likely to be no-ten.

In the heat of the moment, I would have ponned the 6s, but again, with the micro-hope of tenpai, accepting that there is almost no chance at finishing the hand.

Yep. You'd obliterate your handshape, which makes it harder to get to tenpai. You want to call on a 4-7, or 9.
