Post by Dunhill333 » Fri Feb 26, 2016 8:27 pm

I found a tenhou riichi twitch streamer. He is fun to watch.

I follow the generic "Mahjong" game on Twitch. If I hop on and check my Following page it'll show which of my favourite streamers and games have active streams.

Alternatively I guess you could bookmark http://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Mahjong to jump straight there and see who's on.

I don't watch much mahjong aside from Sonic who plays/translates old/new riichi anime games and sometimes plays against his viewers (with real tiles!) but just recently he seems to be concentrating on doing Chibi-Robo! speedruns.

I know there are several other regular riichi streamers including Kime (Tenhou 6-dan peak) and Victor Grishin (EMA top 20). I've also enjoyed the BugTourney channel which sometimes broadcasts online riichi tournaments with live English commentary.

PS Welcome to the forum!

PPS Are you riichigaijin? ;)

I didn't know there was a mahjong tag, I was using and following the tenhou tag. I've streamed tenhou before (http://www.twitch.tv/ddr_dan) but I don't really stream regularly and I also stream other stuff. I still play pretty regularly though, so I could stream if people wanted to watch.

I'm sure there's a bunch of people that would love to watch your games, Dan. Including me!

The best Polish player streams games every Sunday at 7 pm (GMT+1).

twitch.tv/Vegrabber

All streams are in Polish.

Do you stream DDR too, Dan? :D

I think the "Mahjong" entry was probably added for people wanting to stream live games (with tiles and webcams) but it tends to get used for various video-games too.

I'm following a load of Japanese console mahjong games but it's very rare to see any activity there. I did spot someone streaming Saki Portable a few days ago though. :)

I see that Vegrabber uses a separate entry for "Riichi Mahjong" so it would be worth following that too.

Haha, no. But I do still play it sometimes, and would think about streaming Stepmania. Recently it's just been Splatoon on my stream but I'll try streaming more tenhou.

That Riichi category seems to be defunct now, but with the recent popularity of Majsoul - and now the official English version Mahjong Soul - you'll often find people streaming in these new categories (as well as the vanilla "Mahjong" category).

Also I recently found a new "Twitch Plays..." channel where the viewers control a game by entering commands in text chat.

This one is playing the computer version of Sega's MJ! It's a fun idea but I was the only person watching when I was there.

(It's usually live 24/7 but it's currently down with a message that someone is on vacation until 20 June.)

I won a hand when I was trying it quickly a couple of weeks back. The chat log is duplicated on-screen (right side).

Yeah the "Twitch plays..." idea is an interesting one, I believe Gemma re-streams the stream when she is not streaming herself (Gemma streams most days at https://www.twitch.tv/mahjonggem for those interested, usually Doman Mahjong on FFXIV). Would be interesting to get enough people on to see how it runs with multiple inputs at once, though if Twitch Plays Pokemon is any indication, it would be chaos :P

I guess it just goes with the majority or RNG to split a tie? Hasn't been an issue so far!

The stream's still offline but I found a clip of one player getting a Yakuman there. 8)

The TwitchPlaysSegaMJ channel is running again now.

The one issue I have is the anti-spam feature which prevents viewers from entering the same chat message (command) twice within thirty seconds. It is possible to work around this since every command has at least two versions - for the numbers 1 to 9 you can enter 01 to 09 instead and the other commands all have alternates shown below the video window, e.g. "escape" instead of "pass".

I did get in touch with the guy that runs the channel and he said the only fix was to add players as channel moderators!
