Here are, in my opinion naturally, and in no particular order, the 5 best Riichi Mahjong apps in the Google play store (USA).
Criteria used was horizontal mode (larger tiles), ease of navigation, sound effects and/or voice animations, and convenient settings/playing buttons.
Any unique features that made the app more interesting and different were also considered. The games were played on a 8 inch Samsung tablet.

1)Professional Mahjong Kwame by Athena
2)Mahjong God 2/Grand Prix by Fortune inc.
3)Onsen Mahjong by Fortune inc.
4)Mahjong Tensei by e-folder
5)Mahjong Free by Cross Field inc.

Honorable mention: Mahjong Nagomi

The Nagomi app has a price but there is a 1-game-a-day free version available.
It has an "English" setting if that's important.
Mahjong Tensei is also available as a flash game on a PC.
Mahjong Free has a fixed rule monthly competition mode against the computer and a top 100 player ranking among those who play.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I would like to give them a try.

I wouldn't put the Athena gamr first. If I recall correctly the game has bugs, and don't look as good as Mahjong God 2 Grand Prix.

But great list anyways.

Thanks. You probably overlooked it, but I wrote " in no particular order".
I could not decide on which is the best or second best, etc, etc. because it depends on what kind of mood I am in.
When I feel strong, it's Grand Prix or Tensei,
(and if I'm tired, I play Onsen so the girls can keep me awake)

Oh, yeah, I forgot about the "no particular order" point... My bad.

I think that Minna no Mahjong from Unbalance looks good even with the flaws it has. But as it has vertical screen only gameplay and other small problems, is out of the list.
