As of this morning, I finally unlocked most of the bonus stuff...
If you can chain a good number of goals in a row (and the goals in the late stages of that run are not real easy, unless you are willing to pay 200 game currency to change the goal before you delve into it), that's where the bonus stuff gets awarded.
Also, when you hit certain levels, some more goodies/features get unlocked - so far I'm at level 25, so I've unlocked at least one major feature. SJRM makes it public about features being unlocked at Levels 20, 30 and 40.
