Anybody know what the number and character immediately to the right of your rating signifies? In my case, there is the arabic numeral 5, followed immediately by a Japanese character. It\'s not games played - I\'ve played more than 25 now - and it\'s not wins, because I have more than 5. For Japanese players the box has two Japanese characters - the first probably the symbol for a number.

I haven\'t actually tried Ron2, but that\'s most likely your kyuu/dan rank. Kyuu ranks are usually written with Arabic numerals followed by the \"kyuu\" kanji, and dan ranks usually have the kanji for the number followed by the \"dan\" kanji.

For a kyuu rank, the lesser the number, the higher the rank, so 1 kyuu is the highest kyuu rank. Dan ranks are the other way around; the greater the number, the higher the rank, so 1st dan is the lowest dan rank. 1st dan usually comes immediately after 1 kyuu.

It\'s like poochy says. To add more, on ron 2 you start with 5kyu and the highest is 4dan. Kyu lvl is written with arabic number and dan lvls are with japanese kanji (1dan is written \"shodan\" so its not \"ichi\")

To get 5kyu you need 16 tonpusen games or 12 hanchan with at least 2.7 place ratio.

To get 4kyu you need 16 tonpusen games or 12 hanchan with at least 2.6 place ratio.

To get 3kyu you need 20 tonpusen games or 16 hanchan with at least 2.5 place ratio.

To get 2kyu you need 20 tonpusen games or 16 hanchan with at least 2.4 place ratio and ranking 1400 or higher.

To get 1kyu you need 24 tonpusen games or 20 hanchan with at least 2.3 place ratio and ranking 1500 or higher.

To get 1dan you need 24 tonpusen games or 20 hanchan with at least 2.2 place ratio and ranking 1600 or higher.

To get 2dan you need 32 tonpusen games or 28 hanchan with at least 2.1 place ratio and ranking 1800 or higher.

To get 3dan you need 32 tonpusen games or 28 hanchan with at least 2.0 place ratio and ranking 2000 or higher.

To get 4dan you need 64 tonpusen games or 56 hanchan with at least 2.0 place ratio and ranking 2100 or higher.

Thanks! That\'s very helpful. Takes me back to my misspent youth a lot of years ago when I was active in Judo. The difference is that there were more kyu levels and, now, there\'s not quite so far to fall :-)

Maybe I ought to dig out the old Gi and wear it when I play. My wife will think I\'ve gone totally around the bend. Nice meeting both of you.
