Yea the ending is good enough because the manga still runs and they just didn\'t put some random things in it instead they done the ending this way, it\'s more proper then just coming up with a random ending. Also i like Akagi more then Saki because it explained the rules to begin with and while there are unreal situations there they animated it in a way that seems real, and the film noir feeling to it is great. I just can\'t really enjoy watching saki because it\'s just to unbelievable to me, and not because of the effects (actually i like those) but because the \"skills\", Takei Hisa\'s skill is good yea and it has a logical and believable part to it, but Saki\'s skill omg :P But the part of the anime that made me snap was the \"invisible\" girl, that was just too much for me i skipped almost the entire episode. And the fan service well uhh gonzo is in a financial crisis so they try everything just to get more people watching it :P

I will admit the invisible girl was stupid, I didn\'t like that at all as well.

I like Saki because of how dramatic they portray the game, but the fan-service gets annoying. It\'s overflowing with GL (girl-girl relationship stuff), and they like to remind us every episode that Nodoka\'s chest is very large.

Then again, to a lot of anime fans, that\'s a plus. I guess it\'s like Hikaru no Go, which boosted Go\'s popularity. Seeing the anime or reading the manga makes you think, \"Ah that looks like so much fun, I want to play!\"

I\'ve seen in TONS of places that people are getting interested in mahjong because of the series. However, mahjong is a bit more challenging to learn than your average game so most people give up before even trying. Cantonese mahjong is a much simpler (that was my background before converting to Japanese) introduction, but even with those rules I can\'t get my friends to learn because they think it\'s too complicated. :/

I got into Mahjong after loving the Solitare version. Knowing there was an actual game to be played with the tiles I did my own research about the rules and variations, and also found Akagi too. After watching all the episodes I knew I had to learn how to play.

Not too long after they started releasing Saki w/ subtitles on some sites and I have been watching that now. I wouldn\'t say that the Anime\'s alone made me want to play, but they sure helped out. (And personally, I\'m not that big of an Anime fan outside of a few like DB/Z/GT and Samurai7).

I am though, a very big fan of Japan and its culture and history. And Mahjong is very much a part of it.

i believe any popular mangas or anime\'s can only be good for the game\'s exposure (particuarly amongst younger people). Perhaps the difference between saki and akagi is that akagi kind of perpetuated the perception that mahjong was played in shady places with yakuza, where as saki is that kind of highschool anime thing that kids like

QFT

After reading this topic, I\'ve start reading Saki but didn\'t go very far...
3 kan and 3 Rinchan kaihou is just too much unbelievable for me.
Akagi and his impossible tricks is more realist!

And exactly that is why people like this stuff, Shirluban.

This mahou shoujo mahjong is so unreal, and impossible in real life, it can be any serious player\'s wet dream.

It will get worse, current game in the anime has 2 rinchan, 2 chan kan and I think it\'s 4 haitei. And that\'s after 1 and a half hanchan.

Well technically was supposed to be 3 Rinchans. I think it\'s 5 heitei, not sure though. This is already pretty heated, I wonder how Nationals are going to be like.

Actually, I have a bit of fun trying to explain the ridiculous stuff in Saki with cheating. With what I know from watching Legendary Gambler Tetsuya, this is what I came up with.

What if Saki switches her rinshan tile with something from the discards? :D

Yuuki: Girishi. Draws two tiles at once... but only does it in the East round for some reason. (That\'s why her hands all get done fast)

Hisa: Ganpai. She does dumb looking waits, but using marked tiles she can tell that she\'ll be able to win. In the case where she did a no-ten reach, she saw it would go to ryuukyoku. Edit; Oh yeah. The girl with glasses made the marks for her before it was her turn to go on. That\'s why she was able to use it from the start.

Amae: Still working on this one.

By the way, the Kazekoshi captain has ganpai on the 3/7 tiles. It\'s easy to use that information to judge people\'s hands by their organization. Not only that- she was silent for the first hanchan, while she was making the marks on the 3/7 tiles!

I can only imagine that way of cheating in a dark room full of smoke and urapros, July.

Not in a tournament with cameras installed all around.
Hell, even a regular penguin plushy got thoroughly checked out....

Why don\'t you just simply believe in magic?

BTW. I must confess, I lol\'d at the sanshoku Ginji reference.

Actually, I was thinking about how Saki could do it with cameras. For instance, maybe she waits until she gets a tsumo, then switches it into her wall like Ichikawa. And then she just waits to make a kan and switches her draw, to take the tsumo tile?

It\'s just a theory, though.

Still, if you think of it that way the entire manga becomes pretty hilarious... like if you imagine Hisa knows Saki is cheating and is just bullshitting so that nobody else notices. :D

By the way: About the Ginji thing: You have to admit, the Kazekoshi president\'s crowning moment of awesome was DEALING A 7 DOT that she somehow magically knew Yuuki had in her hand. The evidence doesn\'t lie!

Switching tiles like Itchikawa? Well yea but he did it with a perfect memory because the tiles were shuffled by hand (also it\'s pretty strange if you think about it a bit, i mean ok he memorizes his whole wall yea but HOW? he is BLIND i mean so how do he recognizes the tiles while shuffling? :D ) and in Saki tiles are shuffled by the table so it\'s more hilarious that they get these draws. Maybe the table they are using is bugged, really bugged :D

That\'s not what I\'m talking about.

If you draw your tsumo tile, rather than finishing the draw, she would switch it INTO her wall, and then take that whenever she makes a kan. That way she wouldn\'t need to know what the tiles in her wall were.

I\'m working on this myself, but he does it by knowing what the tiles are by touching them. Most mahjong tiles I know have the patterns carved into them :)
