Well said.
Yaku gives you the right to go out.
Han gives you score.

You might want to change Ippatsu and Double Reach too (although Ippatsu is a Yaku in its own right).
Again; it\'s really not, but it\'s obvious you people don\'t care.
I have to concede you the point: Probably few people here cares about a subtle difference like this. Especially when different Japanese sources don\'t say the same thing.
Tenhou list ippatsu among bonus and not yaku? It seems so.
In the same time, Ron² list ippatsu with all other yaku. And for what I can read (thanks Google translator and my paper dictionary), it seems to say ippatsu gives a yaku (成立する役 ).

If you have a lot to teach us about the proper way to use Japanese terms and their exact meaning, please open a new topic about it.
Cats don't do タンヤオ (tan-yao) but タニャーオ (ta-nya-o).

Yaku is what you have in your hand. Han is what you will get on your scoresheet because of the yaku that you have in your hand.
In other words, all yaku is han, but not all han is yaku. :silly:

This would be due, at least in part, to the fact that your assertion (that Ippatsu is not a yaku) was made some 20 hours after my post.

Ah, maybe so. I was certain it wasn\'t, but no matter. My bad.

Hm. Looks like I had a false positive on my jerk sensor. My apologies for jumping down your throat, then. (Sorry, it seems to have turned into a reflex since that time I attempted to police a community that got invaded by 4chan /b/-tards.) Carry on, nothing to see here.

You certainly wrote with conviction!

Wikipedia Japan has separate pages for each yaku (how cool is that?) and the first sentence of the Ippatsu article is pretty explicit: "one of the yaku of mahjong".

Certainly it´s a bonus, but that doesn´t mean it´s not a yaku too.
