Re: RM.com Forum Maintenence
Just to let you know, I've deleted the "profile spamming" accounts.
You know the accounts that link to a doubtful website (mostly about psychic), lie about their location, have generally not been used more than few minutes, and never post.
+ the four banned spammers remaining after that.
So the user list have gone down from 439 to 307 and must be clean of spam bots now. (or sub-clean)

Re: RM.com Forum Maintenence
Since the custom field at registration proved to be effective against spam-bots, I've un-banned most of the ISP from the black-list.
It means:
1) Legitimate users form <country #1> and most of <country #2> have now access to the forum.
2) Some unused spam-bots accounts may start spamming (the spam-bots too have now access to the forum).
So if you see some spam from an account registered mounts ago, don't worry, the current anti-spam features are still effective (spam-bots are stopped at registration).
--------------------------------------------------------
For human-spam, it's more complicated.
Edit (2001/09/01): Un-banned more IP.

Oups!
I was pruning the 347 inactive users (i.e. users who have never fully completed the registration process) who coincidentally joined between "when re-captcha was put here" and "when the custom field was set up", and I've accidentally deleted 6 inactive users who joined more recently.
I apology, assuming they may be real users.
(Anyway, it's quite improbable they are real users, since the most recent was one month ago.)

As far as I've seen we've been free from spambot incursions for some time, so I'm assuming your earlier efforts were successful.
The old RM forums, however, are a total mess now.
They still rank highly on Google too (#1 searching "reach mahjong forum" and "japanese mahjong forum" without quotes). I think all the posts were migrated across so should they be deleted now or replaced with an auto-redirect here?

Only one spammer since the end of August. I mean ... the end of August ... 2011.Barticle wrote:As far as I've seen we've been free from spambot incursions for some time, so I'm assuming your earlier efforts were successful.
Maybe we can open a spambot zoo?Barticle wrote:The old RM forums, however, are a total mess now.

Actually, we were hit by a spammer recently. I deleted the spams and banned the user.

1) I will delete all users who never logged in, never posted, and registered before 01/01/2011.
They are obviously not "real users" of this forum.
That should remove almost half of the current user list.
It's scheduled for this week-end.
2) In a second time, later, we'll remove users who never posted and haven't logged in since months.
It's not planed yet, and the exact action will be re-think after seeing step 1 results.
In any case, if you have never posted, your account may be deleted.
To be sure you will keep your account, please post at least once. For example by replying "I'm alive" in this topic.
Woah, If I didn't find this site again, I would've been deleted haha.

Thank you (both) for your efforts. The situation is certainly a lot better than it was a while back.Tom Sloper wrote:Actually, we were hit by a spammer recently. I deleted the spams and banned the user.
I just hate the idea that someone would Google, find the old forums first and thereafter avoid all reachmahjong.com links like the plague.Barticle wrote:The old RM forums

You are assuming that it is not possible that the same thing would happen with the current forums.Barticle wrote:The old RM forums
