Mahjong for Macs
I recommend this site:

Of all the games on there I really enjoy Souryu 2 the best.

I would like to give Souryu 2 a try. But what does the opening screen want from me? Any suggestions?

Re:Mahjong for Macs
Thanks for the hint. I know that tenhou.net works on Mac. But I would like to practice first a little bit with an offline game... I already tried the proposed flash game from game-design.jp but this has no additional options for further styles of play. Souryu 2 seems to be a good candidate for that job.

My advice to everyone would be:
Practice on Tenhou, not offline.
Why?
Because you\'ll learn bad habits playing against the computer and it will hurt you in the long run.

B)
bad habbits... Isn\'t there any good AI which a beginner can play against without getting bad habbits? A software with a reliable tutor mode?

Not that I am aware of...
...but the best one I know of is the flash game on the gamedesign.jp site.
I still don\'t understand why you don\'t just play on Tenhou.
What have you got to lose?

Yes. A playstation 2 game called Pro Kiwame Next has an excellent tutor mode. Unfortunately, it\'s in Japanese and out of print.

Also PS2 games are region-locked so you´d need a Japanese console too!

Thanks for the hint! Pro Kiwame seems to have a long history. There were some sites listing it in relation to emulations of Super NES and Arcade Machines.

Can you read Japanese?
Re:Mahjong for Macs
There are a lot of Pro Kiwame games, but only Pro Kiwame Next is built around teaching you how to play well. I don\'t particularly recommend any other game in the series.Fat Dragon wrote:Thanks for the hint! Pro Kiwame seems to have a long history.
