Gambling and payment distribution?
Ive bern wondering when gambling with ftiends or at parlors n such how does payment work after the game is it a set number correlating with points, predetermined, or is it just up to the players on how payment after the games is handled. Money n such
Re: gambling and payment distrabution?
The way the parlours here in Japan work is that for free play (ie you just walk in and get seated at a table) there kgs a rate. Eg the one I hear the most is "ten-go" which means 5(go) yen per point (lowest) stick(ten), so 100 points. Usually more commonly described as 50 yen per 1000 points. So after your placing bonus you pay your score's difference from the baseline (usually 30,000 points for hanchan games). So if you're -10 (or at 20,000 points) you pay 500 yen. Similarly if you're positive then you receive money. Usually only first and occasionally second are positive, if second is positive then their winnings come out of first's total. (rather than extra being paid)
If you're playing Set, that is to say you walk in with three friends and rent a table, then how you do money is up to you. But I think some parlours won't allow money to change hands in the parlour due to Japan's gambling laws. But in that case people just take their score sheet with them and settle the money later/outside.

Re: gambling and payment distrabution?
Some parlours (at least all the free parlours I went to) also have some direct payments in some cases, like ¥100 forriichi-ippatsu, riichi-tsumo, and maybe some others (not interested in this so I forgot) and ¥2,000 for a yakuman. It may be an idiosyncrasy of these parlours though, don't know for others.

Yeah you're right. I forgot about those. (writing most of these posts on my phone during brakes etc so sometimes I lose my train of thought xD)Gnom wrote:Some parlours (at least all the free parlours I went to) also have some direct payments in some cases, like ¥100 forriichi-ippatsu, riichi-tsumo, and maybe some others (not interested in this so I forgot) and ¥2,000 for a yakuman. Parlours will also have "chip" payments for certain occurrences. The chip's value changes with the rate being played, but for Ten-Go it's 100 yen. Chips are paid in the following situations (at least at Marchao, the chain I play at): each red 5 in your winning hand, ippatsu, and each Ura-Dora you get (not the indicator the actual number of Dora you get from it, so a pon of Ura-Dora would net you 3 chips), also a yakuman is worth 5 chips.
Basically they're paid out for the luck yaku/Han. Chips are paid at the same time as the points, and are paid by the one who dealt in in case of Ron, and by all players in case of Tsumo.

Re: gambling and payment distrabution?
What's your feedback about Marchao? I want to try Nagoya's soon, since I talked with one guy of the staff last week and it looked like a nicer place than my usual joint. But is it really? I won't know until I go...
Re: gambling and payment distrabution?
I've been happy with them. I play at the no-rate one here in Kobe most days it's open (Tuesday, Friday, Saturday) and Epsilon is the one I started at (no-rate has only been open about 2 months). I also went to the one in Akihabara when I was in Tokyo and it functioned pretty much exactly the same which made things easier since I knew all the chain rules already. So I say give them a try of you can. I can't think of any non-standard parlour rules that they use of the top of my head.Gnom wrote:What's your feedback about Marchao? Still didn't have time (although it was for a good reason: Yakushima holidays
) but was wondering what's the rate? I have this idea that it's tensan but can't remember where I saw that, so I'm not sure...

For Marchao? They do ten-go (1000/50 yen) and another which I think is 1000 points is 100 yen.Gnom wrote:Still didn't have time (although it was for a good reason: Yakushima holidays) but was wondering what's the rate?
