Another bargain!
福 means good fortune and 寿 means long life.

Re: severely in need of an english translation!
Well that was interesting. Had no idea there would be so much history regarding those symbols, (happiness fú 福, and longevity shòu 寿), and I see there was a third one, (prosperity lù 禄),
Are they pronounced foo and shoo in english?
Is the fu in mahjong related in any way? Probably not.
And so I will close with a related quote from the Wikipedia link, "May your life be as steadfast as the mountains and your good fortune as limitless as the seas".

Re: severely in need of an english translation!
Chinese pronunciation is more complicated than Japanese as the same syllable can be spoken with various different tones.
There are only five basic vowel sounds in Japanese and each is always pronounced the same, also each kanji can have several different readings; as a result there are numerous homophones, for example here are all the "Fu" words!
http://tangorin.com/general/fu
The Japanese mahjong term Fu (minipoints) uses this kanji instead: 符
Mahjong is rarely limitless, most forms have at least one limit.

Re: severely in need of an english translation!
Found the first two in Barts guide but not the third one (of the 1st photo). What does the second 30,000 refer to?
配給原点 [haikyū genten] is the starting points of 25,000 pts
原点 [genten] / 返し [kaeshi] is the buy in of 30,000 pts
I think the long sentence is some sort of explanation for that second 30000.
Also, can you translate that option that is 'in use"?

Re: severely in need of an english translation!
It is saiteiten.
最低 minimum, bottom
最高 maximum, top
It says that at least one player should have over 30,000 point in the end.
Otherwise the game is continued to next round like West round(西入)

That little option at the bottom is an abbreviated form of Mangan Kiriage (満貫切り上げ).
Hands scoring 4/30 or 3/60 are rounded up to the Mangan limit (in addition to the usual 4/40+ or 3/70+).

Re: severely in need of an english translation!
One of my apps has an update available. This is the first one discussed in this thread 8 pages back when I was first starting out. It would help if I knew what's new before I hit the button.
( Ignatius, does it bring back memories? )
Thanks for the translation help.

1st:
一括削除ご注意: Summing up deletion warning
受取済みまたは保護していないアイテムをすべて削除します。Receipt completed, items that you do not saved will be, otherwise deleted.
2nd:
削除できませんでした。Unable to delete.
Maybe it´s too literal. At first, I was not sure what was the meaning of this first picture. I was, more or less, at a loss. The second picture was easy.
I think the first picture says that everyting is arranged and everything you don´t save, will be lost. So I translated that this way. I think that´s the idea from what´s written in japanese.

Downloaded Mahjong Tengohukai for iOS and am completely lost since I don't know a lick of Japanese. Has anyone created a tutorial for the app?

Re: severely in need of an english translation!
There's no tutorial, but I wil help. To play this game properly (to be able to play online) you need to create a hangame account. You can start here:Bamf226 wrote:Downloaded Mahjong Tengohukai for iOS and am completely lost since I don't know a lick of Japanese. Has anyone created a tutorial for the app?
https://member.hangame.co.jp/registration/index.nhn
you'll need to write your e-mail. They will sent you a response. In that mail you have to press the first link.
From this point on you'll enter into the real registration. You'll need a way to write in japanese for one or two points. If you register through PC you'll need a japanese IME, but using a japanese keyboard for smartphone is a better idea if you can change the options to show you only syllables to write.
As I don't remember how was the registration, as I did mine some time ago, I reccomend you to post here a screen capture of the registration form. This way I can help you, and also this will help other people if they want to play it.
Then I'll explain the basics on how to navigate through the game menu.

Re: severely in need of an english translation!
As far as I know, there is no tutorial in english for this app. The amount of japanese in this app is overwhelming and If it wasn't for Ignatius (and Barticle), I would have never even gotten to first base when I started with this app a little over a year ago.
If you are looking for another really good IOS app, try Professional Mahjong Kiwame, the 99 cent paid version. Ignatius has translated a tremendous amount of japanese text for this app , which is located in this thread, and, there is also a very extensive english review and "tutorial", started by wavemotion (dave) and continued by myself. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=53059
I have played over 2500 games on this app and I feel it is one of the best around, and if you need help with this one , just ask.
This one , however, is only against the computer. No online play.

Re: severely in need of an english translation!
yes, it is the Athena game. The free version has unlimited play but it is East round only games with no red fives and no stats. It also only utilizes the same 3 characters for all games and unlike the paid version, there are no "jansou" parlors where you get to play against 10 characters (once you open them up) with many of the different optional rules and victory conditions. The paid version naturally has red fives and hanchans....and stats.
